A Jet Airways flight skidded off the runway on Tuesday morning at Dabolim airport in Goa with 161 passengers traveling in it. The flight 9W 2374 from Goa to Mumbai diverged while it was aligning for take-off. 15 passengers suffered minor injuries during an evacuation process. Indian navy officials said that ” the Jet Airways flight at the time of its take-off from HANSA runway 26 aborted take-off and spun around 360 degrees.” The incident took place at 5:30 am when the flight 9 W 2374, which had arrived from Dubai and was intended to fly to Mumbai soon after its arrival, which includes 154 passengers and 7 crew members and was about to take-off when the entire incident took place.
Soon after the incident took place the airport authority started the evacuation process and during the evacuation process, 15 passengers were hurt with minor injuries and fractures. Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will investigate the entire Jet Airways accident, and will soon figure why this accident had happened while DGCA officials are already on the site for inquiry. Operations at Dabolim airport in Goa has resumed now. When the evacuation was on, the aircraft inclined forward, which triggered panic and chaos among the passengers.
“Few passengers who got hurt during evacuation process and they were provided with the medical assistance by the Jet Airways and airport authorities and rest all the passengers and crew members were evacuated safely”, said the airline staff in a statement given to the media person at the airport. The airport officials also mentioned in a statement that the airport authorities are also making an alternative travel arrangement for it guests to or from Goa in order to minimize inconvenience.
Soon after the accident took place, Navy officials and airport authority of India had started the rescue operation and took the hold of the damaged runway immediately. There was a lot of sludge accumulated on the runway due to the accident as the flight was grounded on the sides of the runway. While the rescue operation was going on, in those few hours, a Chartered flight was diverted to Bangalore and an Omen Air Flight which was scheduled to arrive in the morning at the Goa Airport was diverted to Mumbai, said the officials.
Earlier, it was announced that the airport will remain closed for all flight operations until 12:30 pm in the afternoon. Later, the airport authorities announced that the runway of the airport was open and made operational by INS Hansa.
