A Big loss to Nation, Demise of Jayalalithaa Jayaraman 


Jayalalithaa Jayaraman was a political leader, born on 24 February 1948 and died on 5 December 2016. According to the Apolo Hospital reports, The 68-year-old Jayalalithaa was declared dead at 12:15 am yesterday after 75 days of hospitalization she was undergoing treatment, in fact, she was readmitted sooner due to cardiac infarction after doctors declared her medically fit in Chennai.


As a matter of fact, it is the huge loss to the nation, almost every Indian mourning over her death. Winter parliament session at Rajya Sabha will postpone for the day post her death notice, as a symbol of honor to the late Tamil chief minister Jayalalitha. Chennai will remain closed, Centre announced one day of national mourning, on the other hand, Kerala government declared a public holiday for educational institutes as well as for state offices. The funeral ceremony to be held at 4:30pm on Tuesday at Marina beach. Prime Minster Narendra Modi and other ministers will be flying to the respective place to pay homage to Jayalalithaa Jayaraman.

It is pertinent to note that, the former actress who turned as a politician was the second female chief minister of Tamil Nadu following Janaki Ramachandran, moreover, she served Indian politics for prolonged five terms:

  • Initially, from 24 June 1991 – 12 May 1996,
  • Then, 14 May 2001 – 21 September 2001,
  • Further, 2 March 2002 – 12 May 2006,
  • From 29 February 2011 – 27 September 2014,
  • Eventually, she was re-elected as Chief Minister and took the oath on 23 May 2015 – 5 December 2016.

It is noteworthy, Jayalalithaa was a member of the Upper House from 1984 til 1989.

Furthermore, her  contribution to the nation is meant to be remembered. Jayalalithaa Jayaraman was a prominent and one of the leading actress of her time prior to her entry into politics and she featured in films of various genre i.e. 140 films in total, beginning from 1961 till 1980 in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi film industry. Additionally, Jayaraman was regarded as proficient,creative, and versatile actress having appeared in films of different genres and also known for her incredible dancing talent as a result of her tremendous performances she was termed as the queen of Tamil film industry.

What else to be delineated, 18th chief minister of Tamil Nadu and was the first obligatory chief minister was the general secretary of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)and on the other side of the corner, she was famously known as Amma Puratchi Thalaivi, Thanga Gopuram, Thanga Chillai and Thanga Tharagai (Golden Maiden) by her keen followers out of respect and honor.
