South Korean tech giant Samsung, yet again has attracted the attention worldwide, with the launch of it’s Curved Quantum Dot Monitor, (CH711) ahead of Consumer Electronics Show 2017. The CES is scheduled for early next month.
Samsung has aimed this monitor for the gamers and other demanding customers. The Display comes in two sizes i.e. 27-inche and 31.5-inch and is expected to release early next year. Looking at the features, the CH711 has a 178-degree viewing angle with the both sizes having a QHD 2560x1440pixel resolution and supporting 125 percent of sRGB color coverage. It also gets HDMI ports. But, how effective is a 2k display in today’s time when 4K panels are easy to get.
This curved display can be fitted both vertically and horizontally. Furthermore, it can completely be turned vertically which seems pointless with the curved angle. The design is said to be impressive sporting a tri-sided ‘boundless’ with very thin bezels surrounding the panel. The ports are hidden beneath the collar, providing it a smart and tidy look.
Now, about the Quantum Dot thingy? These are very small sized particles in the order of nanometer size, has hundred to thousands of atom in its composition. effectively concentrated to a single point. In simpler words, it’s semiconductor nanocrystals that work alike to OLED. It allows the display to produce more accurate colors and saturation, and be brighter. It can result in a pleasing product only if the manufacturers get it right.
Samsung will also reveal the CFG70 and CF791 curved quantum dot monitors, also showcased at IFA in September 2016. CFG70 is intended for gamers. It gets a 144Hz refresh rate having 1ms of response time and supports AMD Free Sync with a 1080p resolution. Samsung has priced 24-inch ($349.99) and 27-inch ($449.99) respectively.
While the latter one is an eye popper. Besides 34-inch 3440x1440pixel display and it has 1500R curvature giving it a 4ms response time. It will go for sale at $999.99. The three curved panels will be exhibited alongside the previews of the UH750, 28-inch for gamers, and the SH850 WQHD monitor in 23.8 and 27-inch variants. Later in October, Samsung has launched an SUHD tv too, using the same quantum dot technology, rumored to be the most advanced TV out there.
According to Samsung, 2017 will be the year of everyday transformation through technology. Smart machines will coach humans collecting data from them. New wearables using proper sensors that can detect mood and conditions. People of older groups will also be benefitted supporting them in longer and enjoyable work life. The world has seen Samsung’s innovative and awe-inspiring technologies. What doesn’t work in its favor is only the price and keeping the cool gizmos away from the majority.
