Dipa Karmakar the Indian gymnast has returned the luxurious BMW presented to her by former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as a symbol of admiration for her tremendous performance at Rio, great privilege for the gymnast. Post the Rio de Janeiro Olympics and in place of BMW car the gymnast Karmakar bought a Hyundai Elantra costing Rs 25 lakh, the money that 23 year old Karmakar received in consideration of gifted BMW car.
Dipa Karmarkar quoted to IANS (India’s Largest Independent News Service at the time) that she has returned the brand new Luxury car BMW because of poor conditions and inadequate suitable roads in her hometown Agartala, she further quoted, the other reason was the no availability of service centre in Dipa’s native place. The another twist is, the BMW car that was bestow to Dipa by Lord of cricket Sachin Tendulkar, was actually gifted to kamakar by the Hyderabad District Badminton Association, furthermore, she added if there is no showroom of BMW car in Tripura. If the car developed any technical problem during driving, how would that be repaired?
As a matter of fact, Dipa’s coach Bisheshwar Nandi and her father Dulal Karmakar discussed these issues with V. Chamundeshwarnath and requested to cash for the amount of car, while speaking to reporter Dipa also added that she wanted the cash to help her with her training course of gymnasium. Fortunately, V. Chamundeshwarnath convinced with the notion and he happily agreed to deposit amount equivalent to a BMW car cost to pro Gymnast bank account. In conjunction to this, Dipa said we would be more than happy whatever money they give in consideration of the BMW car. Speaking to Hindustan Times Karmakar’s coach Bisweswar Nandi said recently her family bought a car Hyundai Elantra this brand has a service centre in Agartala.
