Reliance Industries Limited’s Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani on Thursday said that Reliance Jio, the 4G service he launched in September 2016, and only in three months it has grown as fast as any social networking site that we have today like Facebook, Skype and Whatsapp. “Jio has crossed 50 million customers in 83 days. It has signed 6 lakh customers per day,” says Ambani in a series of tweets. According to Ambani, Jio has turned out to be the fastest growing technology company in the world in merely 3 months and that is also in the process of doubling its digitally enabled outlets across country. The company has said that it has now started home delivery of Jio SIMs. Reliance Jio has rolled out eKYC(know your customer) facility at 2 lakh outlets in India. The Delivered SIM card gets activated within 5 minutes through eKYC.
Mukesh Ambani the Chairman and managing Director of the Reliance Industries Limited has announced that starting from 4 December 2016, every new Jio user will get Jio’s Data, Video and the ‘full bouquet of Jio applications absolutely free, till 31 March 2017. Ambani unveiled the new offer while addressing employees and stakeholders of the company at an event. He also
added that existing Jio customers will get extended benefits of Jio Happy New Year offer until March 31,2017,on current SIMs. This is being progressively launched across India through MyJio and will be available in top 100 cities by December 31,2016.
Jio’s entry in the market has sparked a data war with rivals Airtel, Vodafone and Idea offering data and slashing price for their consumers in order to retain them. The Reliance Jio has reportedly become the country’s biggest operator to provide digital services with the highest number of mobile broadband users. It is even larger than Airtel’s 41 million 3G and 4G subscribers which it had acquired in 6 years. When it comes to just 4G, Jio user base is 5 times the base of Airtel and a whopping 17 times of Idea. With Reliance Jio, there is another service called Jio Fiber which is much awaited. Jio Fiber is promising 1GBps speed for wired broadband in home, and is already being tested in some parts of India. The company also announced a roll out of Jio Money merchants Solutions, a mobile payments applications, for enabling digital payments for small merchants at their various point of transactions. This will enable digital transactions,railway ticket counters,for Bus and Mass transit and even for person to person money transfer.Benefits of Jio’s superior technology have been denied to customers due to anti-competitive behavior of incumbent operators. Now Jio is also offering mobile number portability service to their customers. All the customers can retain their existing number when they migrate to Jio.
