Jayalalitha’s long time confidante Sasikala Pushpa’s supporters and AIADMK workers had a scuffle today outside party’s headquarters in Chennai. Jayalalitha’s close aide Sasikala Natarajan is rumored to take over the reins of the party. Pushpa was suspended from the party long back by Jayalalitha but she did not resign from being a member of Rajya Sabha. In the scuffle, Sasikala’s lawyer has been injured. The party has a council meeting scheduled for Thursday.
Sasikala Pushpa announced that she is interested for the seat of General Secretary of the party as it has been vacated after the demise of Late CM Jayalalitha. Sources said that MP Sasikala’s husband Lingeswaran Thilagan and their lawyer visited the AIADMK headquarters to file Sasikala’s nomination to contest for the Party’s General Secretary seat and were bashed up outside the office by party workers.
Those who witnessed the brawl said that it was brutal and was out of control until the police intervened. Sasikala’s lawyer was taken to the hospital as he was injured badly. The fight is going on between suspended AIADMK MP Sasikala Pushpa and Jayalalitha’s aide Sasikala Natarajan. While the party is quite confident that Natarajan will take over as the party’s General Secretary seat, The events that took place today has shown everyone that it’ll be tough battle.
Sasikala Natarajan was suspended by Jayalalitha over her issues with DMP MP Trichy Siva. After her suspension, she said that she is under threat in Jayalalitha’s house and asked for protection from the government. On August 1, She said “My life and dignity is under threat. Will the government save me? I am being harassed. I need protection. In Tamil Nadu, I don’t have safety.”
Soon after Jayalalitha’s demise, when the party decided that Sasikala Natarajan will take Jayalalitha’s seat, Pushpa filed a case in Madras High Court against nomination of Natarajan for the post as she is not eligible for the post according to the law that anyone who is taking the General Secretary seat should be a member of the party for a minimum five years.
Sasikala Pushpa has recently filed a petition in the Supreme Court to seek inquiry on Jayalalitha’s demise. She said that Late CM was recovering well and it’s quite suspicious that suddenly she passed away while getting better and also no one was allowed to visit her at the Apollo Hospital where she was being treated.
