Prime Minister Office (PMO) has given the nod to the much awaited Pune Metro Rail Project, as per Anil Shirole members of Lok Sabha Pune proposal will be placed in front of the Union Cabinet Today (Wednesday) for the final approval, following the pivotal nod from Union Finance Ministry and the Urban Development Ministry. In addition to this, post receiving the green signal from the Union cabinet on Wednesday, prolonged dream of Pune city’s having its own Metro rail service has turned into reality in the near future. The Prime Minister’s Office has already given its approval for the much-awaited project on Monday. As an when clearance received by the cabinet the state government will start the project of Pune Metro.
As a matter of fact, soon after the Public Investment Board (PIB) of the Union Finance Ministry gave its permission in October, the Pune Metro plan was placed before the PMO. Speaking to Indian Express in October the Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar Public Investment Board has suggested the proposal of Pune Metro rail in front of Union Cabinet, terms and conditions were not attached there,however, some of the recommendations have been made incorporated.
But most importantly, the commencement cost of two Metro routes is anticipated as more or less, Rs 12,298 crore, with the state government contributing 20%. Further, both the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will fetch 10 % of the cost, at the same time 50% will be raised with the help of the loan. Local civil bodies contribute Rs 1,278 crore. On the other side of the corner, Rs 972 crore is needed for the purpose of land acquisition for the implementation of the Metro project. the actual contribution in terms of cash by the PMC and PCMC combined will cost approximately Rs 317 crore, moreover, the work on two routes is expected to be finished by 2021-22.
Local BJP leaders said, the sod-turning ceremony, for the Metro project, is probably to be around December 24 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi may visit the Pune city. As per political sources of the BJP, the party is doing all the efforts just to ensure to receive a consent on Wednesday for the big project of Metro rail prior to the forthcoming municipal elections. Although, the ambitious project had received the nod from the Finance Ministry and Municipal Corporation of Pune and had also received a green signal from the Railway ministry for the project. It is noteworthy that the PMC in its civic budget for the financial year 2016-17 has made provision of Rs 67 crore fund for the project for Delhi Metro project. Therefore in high hope to accomplish this Metro Project positively.
