The Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education has announced that the board exams of class 10th and class 12th exams are going to be held from February 16th to March 20th- the schedule of board exams is likely to clash with the UP polls if the Election Commission (EC) stuck to the same schedule similar to the year of 2012 state election. This comes when the Election Commission asked the poll-bound states not to announce the examination schedule without consulting it. The information regarding the same is likely to announce the poll schedule for the Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Manipur and Goa sometimes later this or early January.
The Election Commission depends on school infrastructures, such as buildings to double up as polling booths and teachers too are drafted for the election duty. ” The commission is all aware regarding the examination schedule which is going to be held in the first half of the year and does not want it to clash with the elections as it will be difficult for carrying out the election work” according to the official said.
Uttar Pradesh Electoral Officer, T Venkatesh, is going to schedule a meeting with Election Commission (EC) officials in New Delhi on Friday along with Principal Secretary of Secondary Education Jitendra Kumar. The 2012 state Election were announced on 24th of December. And the seven phase poll started on February 8th and completed on March 3rd.
The result of the same elected was announced on March 6th and the government was confirmed on 15th of March. The initial schedule was to conduct poll between 4th of February and 28th of February, and the result will be declared in the month of March. It was changed after the polling schedule of the first phase, February 4, clashed with the Barawafat. The polling of this phase was shifted to 3rd of March. And the subsequently, counting of the votes was shifted to 6th of March.
This time also, the election commission is expected to follow the similar schedule for the election process. “The board is yet to announce the detail which is going to be schedule for every paper… Exams have been organized around the similar time during the last three years. In 2016, the board exams were held between the 18th of February to March 21st…” Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education Director Amar Nath Verma said.
He also added that “maintaining the Board exams is yet to inform the Election commission about this schedule”. The Election Commission is the higher authority who takes the decision. He also mentioned, “If it asks us then we will change our schedule of the exams otherwise, we will stick to the same date that we have announced “.
